The SMART Grid-Free Home Design Competition
invites visionary architects, designers, engineers, and students to redefine the future of sustainable housing. This competition challenges participants to design a self-sufficient home that is completely off-grid, built with locally available materials, and constructed using traditional skills.

With a focus on energy independence, water sustainability, and eco-friendly architecture, the competition aims to create homes that are not only environmentally responsible but also economically viable - especially for rural communities and farmers. Winning designs will showcase innovative, scalable, and climate-resilient solutions for modern sustainable living.

Requirements

This Home should take the fullest advantage of what
Nature Offers. It should be the Nature Friendly.

Energy independent:
Biogas, Wind + Solar
energy... No connection
from MSEB.

Nature: Use what nature offers to the fullest. Light, Ventilation, Solar water heater

Local: Preference to Local materials + Local skills.

Water efficiency: Rainwater harvesting. Reuse, Recycling.

Waste management system: Bio degradable, dry.

Security: CCTV + Fence

Weather Station: State of art Technology + Farm Control centre

The challenge is to think not only in square meters but also to express the re- lationship between the Home with adjoining open spaces and the rural fabric. A successful design must factor in these conditions, as well as consider future needs, social, functional and spatial necessities to generate a distinct and more meaningful proposal.
